The province of Utrecht is small, but it has many well-known wedding venues. Kasteel de Haar in Haarzuilens is one of the best-known castles in the Netherlands. Along the Vecht you will find country houses and estates, with Slot Zuylen in Oud-Zuilen as an example. On the Utrechtse Heuvelrug there are woods, heathland and estates, as well as castles such as Kasteel Amerongen and Huis Doorn.
In the city of Utrecht, the Domtoren and the Oudegracht with its wharf cellars are popular backdrops. Amersfoort has a medieval city centre with the Koppelpoort, and in Veenendaal and Woudenberg there are plenty of rural venues on the edge of the Heuvelrug. The area along the Kromme Rijn, with its orchards and dyke roads, is also lovely for a wedding drive.
Utrecht sits in the middle of the country, and you can see that in the choice of cars: rental companies from every direction drive here. This means there is plenty to choose from, from English and American classics to modern sports cars and Volkswagen camper vans. Choose based on your venue and the number of people riding along.
An English classic suits a castle or country estate. A Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, a Silver Shadow II or a Bentley MK VI makes for a stately arrival and has a spacious back seat. If you would rather go American, choose a Buick Electra 225 or a Buick Roadmaster, big and comfortable. You can find more cars like these under luxury wedding cars.
An open-top car is a joy on the winding roads of the Heuvelrug. A Mercedes-Benz W113 Pagode, a Porsche 356 or an Alfa Romeo Spider is sporty and elegant. If you prefer something modern, choose a Porsche 718 or a Maserati GranCabrio. A Volkswagen camper van is great fun if you want to take your witnesses along. Along the Vecht and the Kromme Rijn there are narrow dyke roads with little room to stop or turn. For photos, pick a spot with a lay-by or a side road, and ask the rental company whether a large car such as a Buick can get through easily.
The city centre of Utrecht is largely traffic-calmed and has many narrow streets along the canals. Agree a drop-off point with the rental company close to the town hall or the church. The area around Utrecht can also get busy, with many motorways meeting. So allow plenty of time for the route between the ceremony and the reception, and choose provincial roads where you can.
The province is centrally located, so rental companies from all over the country drive here. In your quote, ask where the car departs from and how long the journey to you will take. At castles and country estates, it is a good idea to check with the venue beforehand where the car may be parked and whether there is a set route across the grounds.
