Dodge is an American brand with a strong link to so-called muscle cars: big, powerful cars with a V8 that became popular in the sixties and seventies. The names Charger and Challenger come from that era and have since returned on modern cars with a clear nod to the past. Choosing a Dodge as your wedding car means choosing a car that is seen and heard.
That suits couples who don't want anything understated. Think of a party with an American theme, a warehouse or barn as your venue, a wedding with motorbikes or classic cars in the family, or simply a couple who love cars. A Dodge also works as a contrast: a sleek black Charger in front of a white country house or an old church makes for photos with character.
The Charger, the Challenger and the Ram are three very different Dodges from recent years. They share a V8 and an American character, but differ greatly in shape, space and how you sit in them.
The modern Charger is a large saloon with four doors. That makes it very practical on a wedding day: the bride can get into the back easily and there is room for witnesses. The look is wide and menacing, with a low roofline. Read more on the page about the Dodge Charger as a wedding car.
The Challenger is a two-door coupé whose design leans heavily on the original from the early seventies. It is long and low, with a straight nose and round headlights. There is a bench seat in the back, but you get in via the front seat, which takes a bit of juggling in a full dress. See also the Dodge Challenger as a wedding car.
The Ram 1500 is a large pick-up with a spacious cab and a cargo bed. The model is now a brand in its own right within the same group, but is still often called the Dodge Ram. The step up is high, so a small step helps, but inside it is roomy and luxurious. The cargo bed has space for decorations, a sign with your names or even a small bench for photos. More on the page about the Dodge Ram as a wedding car.
All three are modern cars with air conditioning and comfortable seats, so even a longer journey is no problem. They are big, though. A Charger or Ram is wider than most European cars, which can be awkward in a narrow town centre or a tight car park. Discuss the route and the drop-off point beforehand.
The sound of a V8 is part of the experience, but at a church or a quiet venue it is polite to start the engine only once everyone is outside. If you are going self-drive, ask about the rental company's conditions, such as age, driving experience and deposit.
These cars offer plenty of room for decoration: a wide bonnet for a large bow and, with the Ram, a cargo bed you can dress up. Do not use tape on the paintwork and check with the rental company what they provide themselves. On a dark car, white ribbons and light flowers stand out the most; on a bright colour, a softer shade is often nicer.
