Getting married in Noord-Holland: canals, dunes and polders

Noord-Holland offers a special mix for a wedding day. With its canals, bridges and the town hall on Waterlooplein, Amsterdam is one of the best-known wedding cities in the country. Haarlem has a historic centre with the Grote Markt and the Sint-Bavokerk, and in Alkmaar the old town with its canals and the Waag makes a lovely backdrop. Along the coast, from Zandvoort to Bergen and Egmond, you will find beach pavilions and dunes that are perfect for a summer wedding.

The countryside has plenty to offer too. In the Gooi and Vechtstreek there are country estates and manor houses, with the Muiderslot and the fortified town of Naarden as well-known spots. In Haarlem and Alkmaar the centre is more compact, but many streets are narrow there too, so a fixed stopping place is wise. On the coast the access roads can get very busy on summer days; it is better to plan the drive to the beach early or later in the day.
