The Ram is the large pick-up that was long sold under the name Dodge Ram. Since 2010 Ram has been a brand in its own right alongside Dodge, but in everyday speech it is still often called the Dodge Ram. In America a pick-up like this is an ordinary car, while in the Netherlands it stands out for its size: tall, wide and long, with an enormous grille and a cargo bed behind the cab. As a wedding car it suits couples who want something different from a sports car or a classic car.
For a wedding day, a modern Ram with a four-door cab and a luxury specification is the most obvious choice: a V8, plenty of leather and wood, and an interior that feels more like a luxury saloon than a work vehicle. A cab like this has four doors and a proper rear seat.
The biggest difference from other wedding cars is the height. A Ram sits well off the ground, so getting in takes a good step up. Many pick-ups have a running board or side step; ask the rental company whether this car has one. It is easiest to get in with some help: first onto the step, then sit down, then bring the skirt in after you. Wear shoes you can stand firmly in, or put on your heels only once you reach the venue.
Once inside, there is plenty of room. On the rear seat the bride can spread out her skirt, and the groom or a witness sits in front. The cab is wide and tall, so even a veil or a high updo is no problem. There is air conditioning, and the car drives more smoothly and quietly than its size suggests.
A Ram is longer than most passenger cars and does not fit into every car park or narrow street. Discuss the route and the drop-off point in advance, especially in an old city centre. At a farm, country estate or party venue outside the city there is usually enough space.
The cargo bed is what makes a pick-up special as a wedding car. Flowers, straw bales, a sign or string lights all fit in it, and for the photos you can sit on the edge of the cargo bed with the tailgate down. That suits a rustic or boho wedding, a party at a farm or in a barn, or a couple who love the American outdoors. Agree with the rental company what is allowed in the cargo bed and how it is secured while driving; loose decoration does not belong in an open bed on the road.
On the route, the Ram works best on wide roads and tree-lined avenues, not in a busy city centre.
