The RS6 is the fastest version of the Audi A6, built by Audi's performance division. It is best known as an estate, the Avant: a family car on the outside, with wide wheel arches, large alloy wheels and a V8 under the bonnet. That makes it an unusual wedding car. It is not classic and not flamboyant, but understated and powerful, with the practical side of a car in which four or five people sit comfortably.
Since the generation introduced in 2013, the RS6 has had a twin-turbo V8, and it has always had four-wheel drive. It suits couples who love modern technology and are not necessarily looking for a classic car. Car enthusiasts will notice it, while for the rest of your guests it is simply a sleek, dark Audi.
Where a sports car is often a tight squeeze with a wedding dress, the RS6 has four doors and a roomy back seat. The bride can sit in the back with her skirt spread across the seat, while the groom sits in the front or drives. The boot has room for everything a wedding day calls for: a garment bag, a change of shoes, flowers and gifts. If you drive yourselves home or to a hotel after the party, that space comes in handy again: gifts and cards can all come along in one go.
The RS6 has air conditioning, good seats and calm suspension for its class. That makes it well suited to a long day with several locations, such as home, the town hall, a photo location and a reception venue elsewhere in the country. Thanks to the four-wheel drive, the car also stays stable on the road in rain or in winter.
It is still a very powerful car. Ask the rental company about the conditions, such as minimum age, deposit and the number of kilometres included in the hire. Also ask whether the car is delivered clean and with a full tank, and whether there are any restrictions on decorating the paintwork.
An RS6 suits a modern wedding: a sleek venue, a city hotel, a warehouse or a restaurant with an industrial feel. In photos it looks best from a three-quarter front angle, where the wide wheel arches and the large front end really stand out. A dark car with a white dress creates strong contrast, which looks beautiful in the evening light.
Keep the decoration simple: a ribbon across the bonnet or a small flower arrangement suits this car better than large bows. If an RS6 is too understated for you, the open-top Audi R8 from the same brand is a more eye-catching choice.
