What makes a wedding car a classic?

A classic wedding car is a car with a look that has stood the test of time. It is less about an exact year of manufacture and more about shape and feeling: rounded wings, chrome, old-fashioned dials and an interior of leather, wood or cloth. Hiring a classic: practical points

A classic car drives differently from a modern one. Most have no air conditioning, no power steering and brakes that need more effort. For a short route on quiet roads that is no problem; for a long motorway journey on a hot day it can be.

• Weather: some owners prefer not to drive their classic in heavy rain. Ask what happens if the weather is bad.
• Seat belts: older cars sometimes have only lap belts, or no belts at all in the back. Check who can travel safely.
• Time: allow some extra time in your schedule. A classic drives at a gentler pace, and getting in and out in a dress takes time.
• Decoration: do not use tape or stickers on old paintwork. Ribbons and flowers with a soft fixing are safer.
