Aston Martin is an English marque known for elegant, fast grand tourers, and for many people also for the James Bond films. Within the range, the Vantage is the compact, sporty two-seater. Where the larger models are mainly comfortable and long, the Vantage is shorter, lower and more direct. As a wedding car it stands out without being showy: a low nose, a broad rear and that unmistakable Aston Martin front.
The best-known modern Vantage is the V8 Vantage from the mid-2000s, which Aston Martin introduced as the entry point to the brand. It is a coupé with the engine at the front and rear-wheel drive, a layout that has long been typical of British sports cars. For many couples, the sound of the V8 as you pull away from the town hall is exactly why they choose this car.
A fixed roof sounds less romantic than an open-top car, but on a Dutch wedding day it is an advantage. Your hair and veil stay neat, rain is no problem and you do not have to choose between driving with the roof down and arriving dry. In spring and autumn, a coupé is the calmest choice.
The Vantage has two seats and sits low. The easiest way to get in is to sit down first and then swing your legs inside. A fitted dress or one made of a soft, flowing fabric works well. A full skirt or a long train takes more patience: gather the fabric on your lap and ask someone to help you get in and out. There is little luggage space, so let someone else bring bags and a change of clothes in another car.
Unlike a classic car, a modern Vantage has air conditioning, heating and modern brakes. That makes it suitable for a long day, with a drive from the ceremony to the photo location and on to the dinner. It is, however, a powerful car with rear-wheel drive: on wet roads and when pulling away, that calls for a gentle foot. Ask the rental company about the conditions for whoever is driving, such as age and driving experience.
The Vantage suits a stylish wedding with a modern or classic feel, from a country estate to a sleek city venue. Plan your arrival so that you can step out on the square or the driveway: a low sports car looks its best when it is fully in view. For photos, a calm backdrop works well, such as a tree-lined avenue or an old façade.
Keep the decoration modest. A small corsage on the bonnet or a ribbon on the front suits the clean lines. Agree beforehand how anything may be attached.
