Bentley is an English marque that began with sporty cars and racing success at Le Mans in the 1920s. From the 1930s the brand was linked with Rolls-Royce for a long time, and in the decades that followed the cars of the two marques looked very similar. A Bentley offers the same solid luxury, but with a slightly sportier image and its own rounded grille.
A classic Bentley as a wedding car suits a stylish, rather formal wedding. Think of a ceremony in a church or a castle, a dinner on a country estate, or a wedding with a dress code of morning dress or floor-length gowns. The car looks distinguished, but less pompous than a large limousine.
The Bentley MK VI is a car from the years shortly after the Second World War. It has the classic shape of that era: separate wings that run into a long running board, large round headlights and an upright grille. Inside you will find leather, walnut and a calm, upright seating position. You can read more about this model on the page about the Bentley MK VI as a wedding car.
The MK VI is a four-door saloon with a bench seat in the back. The roof is higher than in modern cars, so a bride in a full dress can get in relatively easily. The running board helps with this, but take care that the fabric does not brush against it if the car is dusty. The back is for the bride and groom, while the driver sits in the front.
A Bentley from this period drives calmly and stately. It was built to cruise in comfort, not to accelerate quickly. There is no air conditioning, the windows open with a winder handle and braking feels different from a modern car. So choose a route with quiet roads and not too many kilometres, and allow some slack in your schedule.
A classic English car is sensitive to heat and to idling for long periods. On a warm summer day it is wise to limit waiting time with the engine running and to park the car in the shade during the ceremony. Ask the rental company how it handles days like this and what happens if something unexpectedly goes wrong.
Bentley and Rolls-Royce are very close in feel. If you are undecided, also take a look at the Rolls-Royce wedding cars, or at all the English wedding cars, which also include taxis and sports cars.
For the photo shoot a Bentley is ideal: the long bonnet, the wings and the chrome look their best in a spot with plenty of space, such as a driveway, a castle garden or a courtyard. Decorate the car in a classic style, with a white bow on the bonnet or a small flower arrangement on the grille. Ask the rental company beforehand how the decorations may be attached, because old paintwork and chrome are delicate.
It is also best to choose a colour that suits your wedding. Many classic Bentleys are painted dark, in black, dark blue or burgundy, sometimes with a two-tone finish. A light dress and a white bow stand out beautifully against it.
