Ferrari is the best-known sports car brand in the world and comes from Maranello in northern Italy. The 488 was built in the second half of the 2010s as the successor to the 458. It is a mid-engine supercar: a turbocharged V8 sits behind the seats, the car is low and wide, and it has large air intakes in its flanks. GTB stands for the coupé, with a fixed roof.
As a wedding car, a Ferrari does one thing very well: it draws attention. Guests watch the car arrive, hear it leave, and want a photo with it after the ceremony. It is a choice for couples who love fast cars and want to give their wedding a modern, distinctive look.
The 488 was also available as a Spider with a folding roof. The GTB is a coupé, which has advantages on a wedding day: your hair stays neat, rain is not a problem and the car is quieter on the road. If you would like to drive with the top down, take a look at one of the open-top Ferraris.
A 488 has two seats and sits very low. Getting in wearing a wedding dress calls for a set order: the bride sits down with her back to the seat, then her legs and the fabric go in. A slim or softly flowing dress fits most easily. With a full skirt or a train, help from a member of the wedding party is essential, and some of the fabric will rest on your lap.
There is a small boot at the front under the nose, and hardly any room behind the seats. A small bag for your phone and lipstick will fit, but spare clothes, shoes and gifts are better transported in another car.
The nose of a 488 hangs close above the road. Speed bumps, steep driveways and gravel paths call for care. Ask the venue what the approach looks like and whether there is a level spot to park the car.
A Ferrari is built for speed, but on a wedding day what matters most is a calm, beautiful drive. In a convoy or in a town centre, a supercar demands patience. Plan a route with a stretch of country road or a dyke, where the car can show what it can do for a moment, and finish with a calm arrival at the venue. Ask the rental company about the conditions for whoever is driving, such as minimum age, driving experience, deposit and the number of kilometres included.
Red is the colour everyone thinks of, but Ferraris come in many colours. Choose decorations that do not interrupt the car's lines: a small flower arrangement or a narrow ribbon is enough. Modern paintwork is delicate, so always check with the rental company first. Other models from the brand, such as the open-top Ferrari California, can be found on the page Ferrari wedding car hire. You can find more fast cars among the sporty wedding cars.
