Aston Martin is a British sports car maker with a long history in motorsport and an even better known role in film: since the 1960s, James Bond has regularly been seen driving an Aston Martin. That mix of refinement and speed makes the brand popular with couples who want something different from a classic Rolls-Royce, but still want a car with British class.
An Aston Martin is not a flashy supercar. The lines are long and calm, the grille has the shape the brand has used for decades and the interior is finished in leather and stitching. In photos, a car like this looks understated and chic, which suits a wedding suit, a sleek dress and a venue such as a country estate or a stylish hotel.
The Vantage is the compact sports car in the brand's range. The V8 generation came onto the market in the mid-2000s and was built as a coupé and as a roadster. It is a two-seater with the engine at the front, a low seating position and a short rear end. You can read more about this model on the page about the Aston Martin Vantage as a wedding car.
A Vantage sits low and the doors are long. That helps when getting in, but the sill is wide and the seat is deep. With a dress with a lot of volume, it is wise to sit down first and only then swing your legs inside. There is no back seat, so witnesses or children travel separately. Small bags and the rings can go in the boot space behind the seats.
The V8 sounds deep, especially when starting up. That is a lovely moment when you leave the ceremony, but at a church or a quiet wedding venue it is polite to start the engine only once everyone is outside. Feel free to ask whether the rental company can warm the car up beforehand in a spot where it will not disturb anyone.
A modern sports car is more reliable and more comfortable than a classic car: there is air conditioning, the brakes are strong and long distances are no problem. That means an Aston Martin also works well if your wedding venue is further away or if you still have some distance to drive after the party. Do pay attention to conditions such as a minimum age, driving experience and a deposit; these differ per rental company and it helps to know them in advance.
If you are torn between brands, you could also look at other sporty wedding cars, from Italian to German. If your heart lies mainly with British cars, the British wedding cars also include classics such as Rolls-Royce and Bentley.
When it comes to decoration, less is more. A narrow ribbon across the bonnet or a small flower arrangement on the boot lid looks lovely with the sleek lines. Do not use tape on the paintwork and ask the rental company what it provides itself. For the photo shoot, plan a spot with plenty of space around the car, so that the long bonnet and the profile of the car come across well.
