Audi comes from Ingolstadt in Germany and is known for sleek design, neat finishing and four-wheel drive under the name quattro. An Audi as a wedding car is therefore not a nostalgic choice, but a modern one. It suits couples who love design, a wedding at a sleek venue, a city hotel or a modern villa, and a photo shoot with architecture or industrial backdrops.
The R8 and the RS6 are the sportiest models of the brand. They are two very different cars with the same logo, and the choice between them depends mostly on how many people need to travel in it and how you want to experience the day.
Both models have plenty of power and a sporty look, but that is where the similarity ends. One is built to stand out by being low and wide, the other to drive fast and comfortably with a full car. So look first at the number of passengers and the dress, and only then at the looks.
The R8 is a two-seater with the engine behind the seats, a low nose and a wide rear. As a wedding car, the Spyder is especially popular: the open version with a fabric roof that opens electrically. That makes the R8 a great fit for a summer arrival where guests see the couple straight away. The downside is space: it seats two people and the luggage compartment at the front is small. The RS6 is the fastest version of the A6 Avant, an estate car. It looks wide and low, but it has four doors, a full-size back seat and a large boot. That means witnesses, a photographer or parents can simply come along, and even a large dress fits without fuss. If you want a sporty car that stays practical, you will find more on the page about the Audi RS6 as a wedding car.
Modern Audis have air conditioning, heated seats and strong brakes. This makes them suitable for a wedding in spring or autumn too, and for longer distances between the ceremony, the photo location and the party. With the R8 Spyder, the roof closes quickly if it starts to rain, so you do not have to choose between open and dry.
Take care when getting into the R8, as the seat is very low. With a full dress, it is wise to sit down on the seat first and then swing your legs in. In the RS6 the step in is higher and the door is bigger, which makes it much easier with a train.
Sports car rental companies often set conditions for self-drive, such as a minimum age, a number of years of driving experience and a deposit. Ask about these straight away when you request a quote. Also agree how many kilometres are included in the hire, because with a sporty car the route for the day can add up without you noticing.
Still unsure about the brand? Then also take a look at the other sporty wedding cars. There you will find Porsche, Ferrari and Maserati, among others, side by side. For decoration on a modern Audi, a narrow ribbon or a small flower arrangement works best. The paintwork is smooth and sleek, so suction cups hold well, but never use tape. Match the colour of the ribbon to the paint: on white and silver a soft shade works well, while on black or grey the contrast can be bolder.
