The first thing you notice about an electric wedding car is what you don't hear. No engine idling outside the town hall, no rumble over the exchange of rings or the speeches. In the car you can simply talk to each other, and anyone standing by the roadside will see it glide up almost soundlessly. When the car is parked for the photos, there are no exhaust fumes: nobody stands in a cloud of smoke and nobody smells of petrol after the photoshoot.
For many couples, this also fits the way they live. If you drive electric at home or are deliberately planning a sustainable wedding, with local flowers and a seasonal menu, it makes sense for the wedding car to match. But even without that motive, silence is a lovely quality on a day when so much revolves around what is being said.
Electric does not automatically mean new. This type covers roughly two kinds of wedding car, and they create a very different atmosphere.
There are specialists who convert a classic car to electric. The bodywork, the lines and often the interior stay as they were; the petrol engine makes way for an electric motor and a battery. One example is a classic Porsche 911 from the 1960s that has been converted in this way. Such a car has the look of a classic car as a wedding car, without the sound and smell that usually come with it. For anyone who loves classics but would rather leave the noise at home, it is a lovely middle way. At heart it is still an old car, though: ask about space, getting in and out, and comfort, just as you would with any classic.
Then there are modern electric cars, such as a Tesla Model 3. They are sleek, offer today's technology and comfort, and have air conditioning, which is welcome on a hot summer day for a bride in a full dress. They suit a contemporary venue, a city wedding or a couple who want something different from the familiar classic. You can find more models from this make at the Tesla wedding cars.
Which of the two suits you depends mostly on the atmosphere you are after: timeless and nostalgic, or sleek and contemporary. Take a look at the listings above to see which electric cars are currently online, as the selection changes.
An electric car raises a few different questions when you are planning than a petrol car does. Discuss them with the rental company in advance, so nobody has to think about them on the day itself.
