Maserati is an Italian marque from Modena, with the trident of Neptune as its logo. The GranCabrio is the open version of the GranTurismo, a large, elegant coupé that appeared in the second half of the 2000s. The design came from Pininfarina, and under the long bonnet sits a V8 with a warm, rounded sound. The GranCabrio followed around 2010 as a convertible with a fabric roof.
What makes the GranCabrio special is that it has four full-size seats. Many open sports cars have only two, or room for just bags in the back. In a GranCabrio, two adults can sit in the rear. The first generation was built until the end of the 2010s.
Thanks to its length and four seats, the GranCabrio is roomier than most open sports cars. The doors are long, the seats sit low but not extremely so, and with the roof down, getting in wearing a wedding dress is quite manageable. The bride sits down first and then swings her legs and skirt inside. A train can go in the footwell or on your lap. In the back there is room for witnesses or parents, so you can drive to the ceremony together.
The fabric roof opens and closes electrically. On a sunny day you drive with the roof down, and your guests can see you sitting in the car. If it rains, the roof goes up and the GranCabrio becomes a comfortable, quiet car. When driving with the roof down, think about your hairstyle and veil, because it gets quite windy at speed.
The GranCabrio is a grand tourer: built to cover long distances in comfort. It has air conditioning, leather seats and a relaxed suspension. That makes it suitable for a day with several locations or a reception venue further away. It is still a powerful car, so ask the rental company about the conditions for whoever is driving, such as age, driving experience and deposit.
The GranCabrio suits a stylish wedding with an Italian touch: an estate, a villa, a waterside venue or a terrace with olive trees and terracotta. It is elegant enough for a classic ceremony and sporty enough for a modern party. In photos, a side view with the roof down works well, showing the long bonnet and the low line of the car in full. Soft light in the late afternoon gives the paintwork depth.
Keep the decoration modest: a small flower arrangement on the bonnet or a ribbon across the boot lid suits the sleek lines. Check with the rental company what is allowed on the paintwork. Other models from the marque, such as the four-door Maserati Quattroporte, can be found on the Maserati wedding cars page. You can find more open cars under convertibles for your wedding.
