Maserati is an Italian brand that was founded in Bologna and is now based in Modena. Its logo is a trident, inspired by the statue of Neptune on a famous square in Bologna. Maserati builds cars that sit somewhere between a luxury tourer and a sports car: comfortable enough for a long drive, but with an engine you can hear and feel.
A Maserati as a wedding car is less flashy than a Ferrari and less formal than a Rolls-Royce. It suits a stylish wedding with a touch of Italy, whether at an estate, in a luxury hotel, at a marina or on a wine estate. In photos the car looks refined, with long lines and a distinctive grille. For couples who want a sporty car that can also carry witnesses or parents, Maserati is a logical choice too: both the GranCabrio and the Ghibli have a back seat.
The GranCabrio and the Ghibli each show a different side of the brand. Both have four seats, but they are built very differently.
The GranCabrio is a large convertible with a fabric roof and two doors. What makes it special is that it has four proper seats, which is not a given with open sporty cars. Witnesses or parents can therefore ride along, and with the roof down you as a couple are clearly visible. Getting into the back does mean climbing past the front seat. You can read more about this model on the page about the Maserati GranCabrio as a wedding car.
The Ghibli is a four-door saloon with a low, sporty roofline. It is closed, comfortable and has four doors, so a bride in a full dress can get into the back easily. If you are looking for a luxurious, understated car that works just as well in bad weather, the Ghibli is a good choice. Read on at the page about the Maserati Ghibli as a wedding car.
Both models are modern cars with air conditioning, heating and comfortable seats, so even a drive of an hour or more to the reception venue is no problem. The weather mostly decides the choice: with the GranCabrio you have the option of driving with the roof down, while with the Ghibli you always stay dry.
The sound of a Maserati is one of the reasons people choose the brand. When you leave after the ceremony it sounds wonderful, but at a church or a quiet venue it is better to start the engine only once everyone is outside.
With self-drive hire, rental companies often set conditions for age, driving experience and a deposit. Ask about this straight away when you request a quote, as well as about the arrangements for mileage and insurance. If you would like to compare more options, you will find them under luxury wedding cars, where Italian, German and British brands are shown side by side.
For decoration, something understated works best: a narrow ribbon across the bonnet or a small flower arrangement on the boot lid. White flowers stand out beautifully against dark paintwork. Discuss with the rental company how everything may be attached, because even modern paintwork is easily damaged by tape or chafing ribbons.
