Many people know the name Charger from the two-door Dodge of the late 1960s, which appeared in countless films and series. Since the mid-2000s the Charger has been a large four-door saloon, built on the same platform as the Challenger. It has the broad nose and tough stance of a muscle car, but also a proper back seat and a big boot. In America it is also widely used as a police car, which says something about how sturdy it is.
A well-known version is the R/T with a Hemi V8. Since the early 2010s the rear has featured a slim light bar running the full width of the car, a feature that makes it instantly recognisable in the dark. As a wedding car it has a solid, modern look.
In a two-door sports car, the bride has to choose between sitting in the front or climbing over the seat to the back. In a Charger, the bride can simply get in through the rear door and spread her skirt out on the back seat. That is kinder to the dress, and on arrival it makes for a lovely moment: the groom opens the rear door and helps the bride out.
Besides the couple, there is room for a witness in the front, and the boot has space for bags, a change of shoes and flowers. If you want to use one car for the whole day, from getting ready at home to the party, that is a real advantage.
The Charger has air conditioning, spacious seats and a smooth automatic gearbox. There is no worry about overheating in traffic or an engine that will not start. It is, however, a large, powerful car with rear-wheel drive: in a narrow street or on a wet road, that calls for attention. Ask the rental company about its conditions, such as age, driving experience and deposit.
A Charger suits a modern wedding with an edge: a party in a factory hall, a venue by the harbour, or a couple who love American cars. A dark car next to a white dress gives strong contrast in the photos. Plan a photo moment at dusk, when the headlights and the rear light bar are on.
Choose a route where the car has room to breathe, such as a country road along the water or a long avenue leading to the venue. Keep the decoration simple: a ribbon across the bonnet or a floral arrangement on the boot lid. If you would rather have a two-door coupé, take a look at the Dodge Challenger. Other models from the brand can be found on the Dodge wedding cars page, and you will find more powerful cars under sporty wedding cars.
