The MG B: a British sports car for an open-top wedding drive
An MG B is not currently in our range. This small British sports car was built from the early 1960s until 1980 and is one of the best-known roadsters of its era. There was an open two-seater roadster and a closed GT version with a small rear seat. Early cars have chrome bumpers, while later models have larger rubber bumpers.
As a wedding car, the MG B suits a wedding with a cheerful, relaxed style. With the roof down, you drive to the ceremony together, and in photos the low, rounded shape instantly gives a 1960s feel. It is a practical limitation, though: it seats two people, and a dress with a full skirt or long train will be a tight squeeze. A simple, softly flowing dress works better.
Open classic cars you can hire
A good alternative from the same period is the Alfa Romeo Spider: also a two-seater with a fabric roof, but with an Italian design. If you would like to keep it British, the English wedding cars include models from various makes, from small classics to large saloons.
All cars with an open roof can be found under convertibles. There you will also find roomier open cars with four seats, which is handy if the bride is wearing a full dress.
With an open classic car, always agree in advance what happens if it rains: can the roof be closed quickly, and is there an alternative route or car?

Is a small roadster practical on your wedding day?
For the couple themselves, yes, as long as you know what you're letting yourselves in for. There are only two seats, there is very little luggage space and a full dress is a tight fit. For the drive from home to the ceremony or for the photo shoot, a roadster is ideal. Arrange separate transport for witnesses, parents and belongings.
What do we do with an open-top car if it rains?
A classic roadster has a fabric roof that can be closed, but it takes a moment and the car is not always completely waterproof. Ask the rental company how quickly the roof can be closed and whether umbrellas are included. If the forecast looks doubtful, plan a short route and keep the photo shoot close to a covered spot.
Can we also travel a long way in a British classic car?
A short journey is no problem, but long stretches of motorway are hard going and noisy for a small classic car, especially with the roof down. Ideally, choose a route along country roads, which also makes for lovelier photos. If the ceremony and the reception are far apart, ask the rental company whether the car can comfortably manage the distance.
Which dress works best in a small sports car?
A dress that falls softly and doesn't flare out too much, such as an A-line in a light fabric or a fitted dress. A big hooped skirt or a long train is hard to fit into a two-seater. If you do want to wear a full dress, choose a roomier car for the journey and use the roadster just for the photos.
