McLaren: Formula 1 technology for the road
McLaren is a British brand from Woking, world famous from Formula 1. Since the 1990s it has also built road cars, and over the past fifteen years or so it has become an established name among supercars. Its signature feature is the doors, which swing up and forward. When they are open, the car looks like a bird with its wings spread: a photogenic moment on arrival.
A McLaren as a wedding car is mainly for couples who love technology and speed. In practical terms, it is a two-seater with a very low seat and little storage space. A dress with a lot of fabric will be a tight fit, and you need room beside and above the car to open the doors. Also watch out for kerbs and steep driveways at the wedding venue.
When planning, take into account the width and the low nose of the car. A covered entrance, a narrow gate or a steep ramp to a car park can be a problem. Ask the wedding venue what the approach route looks like, and for the photos choose a spot with plenty of space around the car, so the doors can open fully.

Frequently asked questions
How do the doors of a McLaren open?
The doors are hinged at the front and swing up and slightly forward. This makes the opening for getting in nice and large, although the sill stays wide and low. For the photos it looks stunning, especially with both doors open. Do make sure there is enough room beside the car, and watch out for low ceilings, for example at a covered entrance.
Is there room for luggage in a supercar?
Hardly any. A supercar has a small storage space at best, big enough for a bag or a pair of shoes. A large bouquet, a coat or a suitcase for the wedding night will not fit. Ask a witness or another car to carry those things for you, and keep only the essentials with you.
Which British sports car is listed on the site?
The Aston Martin Vantage is the most obvious choice. Like a McLaren, it is a British sports car with a long bonnet and a powerful presence. Its character is a little more classic and less extreme, and it is slightly easier to get in and out of. Take a look at the model page to see what is currently available.
Is a supercar not too loud for a church or town hall?
A supercar makes quite a lot of noise when starting up and pulling away, and that is part of its charm. During a quiet ceremony, it can be disruptive. Ask the driver to arrive slowly and to switch off the engine as soon as the car has stopped. You then save the sound for the departure, when your guests are outside waving you off.
