The Hummer as a rugged wedding car

The Hummer is an American off-roader derived from the military Humvee. The first civilian version appeared in the early nineties, followed later by smaller models under General Motors. Around 2010 the brand disappeared from the showrooms. Today the name lives on in an electric pick-up from GMC.

As a wedding car, a Hummer stands out straight away: wide, tall and angular. That suits couples who don't want a classic horse-drawn carriage feel, but something tougher. There are also stretched Hummer limousines, best known from parties and stag and hen nights. In practice, there are a few things to bear in mind. The step up is high, which means help and a step stool if you are wearing a long dress. And because of its width, the car doesn't fit everywhere: think of narrow gates, old town centres and tight parking spaces at a wedding venue.

The colour also makes a big difference. A black or dark green Hummer looks rugged and military, while a white one feels a little more festive. With a simple ribbon or a few flowers on the bonnet, you soften the tough look without losing the rugged character.
