An Excalibur Phaeton is not currently available from any rental company on the site. Excalibur was a small American marque that built neoclassic cars from the 1960s onwards: brand new cars with the styling of a 1930s sports car. Think long, freestanding mudguards, chrome exhaust pipes running along the bonnet and large headlamps, all with American engineering underneath. A phaeton is an open four-seater, so the couple sits in full view in the open air.
It is exactly this combination that makes the Excalibur stand out as a wedding car. It looks like a pre-war classic, but drives with the technology of a much younger car. In photos it draws all the attention, and when it arrives at the venue it is hard not to look at it. There are drawbacks too: the step up is high and the mudguards get in the way, which takes a little practice with a full dress. It is also an open car, so a dry day or a good rain plan is important.
For a classic open car with long, elegant lines, the Mercedes-Benz W180 is a lovely choice, a convertible from the 1950s. If you want to compare more open cars, take a look at the convertibles as wedding cars.
If you are after an American feel, the American wedding cars include classics and modern cars that stand out just as much. The selection changes: if an Excalibur comes online later, it will appear here.
