Brugge is one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe, and its entire centre is on UNESCO's World Heritage list. The Markt with the Belfort, the Burg with its Gothic town hall and the canals with their little bridges draw couples from all over the world. The Rozenhoedkaai, with the Belfort in the background, is perhaps the most famous view of the city.
If you get married in Brugge, you get married in a city that seems made for photographs. Almost every street, bridge and canal makes a lovely picture, even in places that are less well known than the Rozenhoedkaai.
On the south side of the centre you will find the Minnewater and the Begijnhof, with white houses around a quiet inner garden. It is a peaceful spot for your first photos together after the ceremony.
Brugge is a city to explore on foot, even on your wedding day. The car plays its main role at arrival, at departure and on the drive to the reception outside the centre.
The centre of Brugge is small, with narrow streets, cobblestones and plenty of pedestrians. A wedding car cannot simply go everywhere. Agree the route and a drop-off point with the rental company in advance. Walking the last stretch along the canals is actually a lovely way to make your entrance in Brugge.
To the north-east of Brugge lies Damme, a small town on a waterway lined with rows of poplars. The road along the water is one of the most beautiful short routes in West-Vlaanderen, ideal for a convertible or a classic car. Beyond it lie the polders stretching towards the coast.
For the old town, compact classic cars suit better than long American cars. Also have a look at what is on offer in other Flemish cities, such as wedding cars around Gent, or the full range in West-Vlaanderen.
The classic wedding cars look wonderful against the medieval facades. Ask every rental company whether the car is allowed into the old town and how waiting during the ceremony is arranged.
If you marry on a weekday or outside the tourist season, the centre will be quieter. Talk to your photographer about which places you will visit on foot and where the car will be waiting again for the drive to the reception, for example to a venue in the polders or towards the coast.
