The Silver Spur: extra space in the back

A Rolls-Royce Silver Spur cannot be hired through the site at the moment. The Silver Spur arrived in 1980 and is the extended version of the Silver Spirit. The difference is mainly in the rear: the wheelbase is longer, which gives extra legroom. In the 1980s and 1990s it was seen as the Rolls-Royce for those who preferred to sit in the back.

For a wedding, that extra space is exactly what a wedding car needs. The bride can spread her dress out comfortably across the back seat, and there is room to sit side by side without creasing the skirt. The sleek, angular shape of that era is a little more modern than that of the classic Rolls-Royces from the 1950s and 1960s, but the large grille and the figurine on the bonnet give it that unmistakable look.

Classic Rolls-Royces and spacious wedding cars

The predecessor of the Silver Spirit and Silver Spur is the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II, a car from the 1970s with a similar ride and slightly softer lines. On the Rolls-Royce page you will find the other models that rental companies currently offer, including the older Silver Cloud.

If you are looking for even more space, for witnesses or family, take a look at the limousines. When you request a quote, let us know how many people will be travelling and how long the journey is, so the rental company can advise which car suits you best.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a Silver Spirit and a Silver Spur?
The Silver Spur is the extended version of the Silver Spirit. From the front they look almost identical, but the Spur has a longer wheelbase and therefore more legroom in the back. For a couple sitting in the back, it is the more comfortable of the two models, especially if the dress needs plenty of room.
Is a Rolls-Royce from the 1980s still a classic car?
Yes, increasingly so. Rolls-Royces from the 1980s and 1990s have a distinctive, clean-lined style that is now seen as classic. They often have air conditioning and are slightly more modern in their technology than their predecessors. That makes them a good middle ground between a classic car and a modern luxury car.
Which colour of wedding car looks best in photos?
Dark colours such as black, navy or burgundy make a white dress and flowers stand out beautifully. White and cream give a soft, romantic look, especially at an outdoor venue surrounded by greenery. Two-tone cars, like many Rolls-Royces, add extra character. Think about the colours of your venue and your wedding styling.
Do we need to give the route of the wedding car in advance?
Yes, it is wise to do so. With the addresses for pick-up, ceremony, photoshoot and reception, the rental company can make a good estimate of the time and distance. With a large car, it is also important to know where it can stop and turn around. The more specific your request, the better the quote will fit.
