The Mazda MX-5: a lightweight roadster for two

Mazda is a Japanese brand from Hiroshima. For a wedding, the MX-5 is the model of most interest: the small open two-seater that appeared in the late eighties. It was built in the spirit of the British roadsters of the sixties: light, low and with a fabric roof that you open and close in a few simple steps. The difference from those classics is the more modern technology, which gives peace of mind on a busy wedding day.

A roadster suits a couple who want to ride together, with no passengers on board. It looks lovely at a summer wedding, on a drive along the dyke or for a photo shoot on a country lane. There is little space: a full dress with a train is a tight fit and there is hardly any boot space. A slim-fitting dress or a second car for your belongings solves that.

An MX-5 is also light and agile, which is handy in narrow village streets and on country lanes. Driving with the roof down is at its best on a mild summer evening, for example for a short photo shoot between the ceremony and the dinner. For a long motorway drive a small roadster is less suitable: it sits low and with the roof down it gets noisy.
