Fiat Barchetta as a wedding car: small, open and Italian

A Fiat Barchetta is not currently on the site. The Barchetta, Italian for "little boat", is a small two-seater roadster that Fiat built from the mid-1990s. With its rounded shape, short overhangs and soft top, it is a playful car that is especially popular with fans of Italian convertibles.

As a wedding car, the Barchetta suits couples who want to keep things small and personal. It is a two-seater, so there is room for the driver and one passenger. That works well if you drive to the venue yourselves or if one of you is being picked up. With the roof down, the car is ideal for photos in the dunes, along a dyke or on a country lane. It is too small for a dress with a lot of volume, but a short or flowing dress fits just fine. Because it is a youngtimer, the technology is simple and easy to maintain.

Small convertibles and roadsters that are online

The closest match is the Alfa Romeo Spider, also an Italian two-seater convertible, but a classic from the 1960s. Within the Fiat brand, the Fiat 500 is a fun alternative: small, cheerful and with a roll-back roof.

If you are looking for a roadster from the same era with a bit more sportiness, take a look at the Porsche 986, the first Boxster. The selection changes, so if a Barchetta is added later, it will appear on this page.

Frequently asked questions

Is a small roadster practical as a wedding car?
That depends on your plans. A two-seater has room for the driver and one passenger, and very little luggage space. If you are driving yourselves, or one of you is being picked up, it works perfectly well. For family, witnesses or a dress with a lot of volume, a larger car is more practical. Many couples use a roadster mainly for the photo shoot.
How can a hairstyle survive a ride in an open two-seater?
An open two-seater lets in a lot of wind. An updo with a little hairspray will usually hold up well, whereas a loose veil is less likely to. Tell your hairdresser that you will be driving with the roof down, keep the speed low and put the veil on only when you arrive. Keeping the side windows up also helps a little against the wind.
When is an open two-seater a good choice?
In spring and summer, for a small wedding or an elopement, and for couples who see the car as part of the photo shoot. An open two-seater suits dunes, a dyke or a country lane. It can work for an autumn wedding too, but plan a short open-top drive and keep the roof ready.
Why can't we find a Fiat Barchetta on the site?
The site shows cars that rental companies list themselves, and at the moment nobody has listed a Barchetta. Other small Italian convertibles and roadsters are available, though. Do check back later: as soon as a Barchetta is added, you'll find it here.
