The province of Antwerpen shows two very different faces on a wedding day. In the city of Antwerpen, couples like to drive past the Grote Markt with the town hall and the Brabofontein, or have photos taken at the cathedral and on the Schelde at Het Steen. These are places where a wedding car looks wonderful, but you also have to allow for trams, cyclists, pedestrians and little room to stop. You can read more about the city itself on the page about wedding car hire in Antwerpen.
Beyond the city lies the Kempen: woods, heathland and fens around Turnhout, Geel and Mol, with castle estates, farms and party venues in the countryside. In the north you will find the Kalmthoutse Heide, and between the city and the Kempen lie Mechelen and Lier, two historic centres, each with its own market square and town hall. Many couples combine the civil ceremony at the town hall with a reception and party at an outdoor venue. The wedding car is then not just a backdrop for the photos, but also your transport between places that can be half an hour apart.
In this province, the right choice depends heavily on where your day takes place. A drive of a few streets through the city calls for something different from a half-hour journey along country roads to a castle estate. The rental companies that operate here mainly offer American classics, Porsches and modern convertibles, along with a few English and Swedish classics.
In a busy city centre, you want a car that stands out but stays nimble enough. A classic Ford Mustang from the 1960s is a popular wedding car choice here: instantly recognisable, with room for four and often a V8 you can hear coming. If you prefer something more formal, choose an English saloon such as the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, with a spacious back seat where a full dress fits more easily than in a two-seater.
On quiet roads through woods and heathland, an open wedding car really comes into its own. Think of a Porsche 356 Speedster or a modern Porsche 718 for the two of you, or a Mustang convertible if a witness needs to come along too. A Volvo Amazon or a Mercedes-Benz W123 are relaxed four-door classics, handy if your dress needs plenty of room or if you would rather not step over a low sill.
The city of Antwerpen has a low emission zone. Whether a classic car or older vehicle is allowed to drive there depends on the car and its registration. Ask about this when you request a quote, so the route is settled before the day begins. If you are travelling from the Kempen to the city, bear in mind the Ring around Antwerpen and the tunnels under the Schelde, which can be busy on Fridays and Saturdays. Allow plenty of time between the town hall, the photo shoot and the reception venue.
Rental companies that operate in the province of Antwerpen do not always come from the area. Some also drive elsewhere in Flanders or come from the Netherlands. Agree where the car departs from, what time it will be with you and whether a break is needed along the way, for example to refuel or to let a classic car cool down. A timeline with addresses and times helps both the rental company and your photographer. If you are also looking at other regions, you will find the offer per province on the page about wedding cars in Belgium.
